Boogie-Woogie is governed by the World Rock and Roll Confederation together with Rock’n’Roll, Acrobatic Rock’n’Roll, Lindy hop, Bugg and Doublebug. It aims, among others, to promote and popularise these dance styles around the world, and to organise high quality international events and competitions.

Boogie-Woogie has a long history, and it went through a lot. Nowadays it’s a very popular dance style in Europe, especially in Norway, Sweden, Germany, Poland, France, Italy and Russia.

So what is Boogie-Woogie anyway?

It is a fun couple dance style resembles Lindy hop, but it’s rules are stricter. Also it contains a nice variety of rock and roll elements and acrobatics.

Boogie-Woogie can be danced to many kinds of music genres including: piano boogie-woogie, swing, jazz, blues, rockabilly, rock and roll etc. This makes the style very exciting and appealing for those, who enjoys variations, mixing styles and express themselves multiple ways. Every song is different and every dance is different.

The most enjoyable aspect of boogie is music interpretation. There are no choreographies or repeating routines on the table. Instead when dancing, you move together with the music. It requires improvisational skills, learning to be in the present, listen to the music and your partner, and create a great experience together. And that is the “heart and soul” of boogie-woogie dancing.

Fast & Slow

Boogie-Woogie is usually known for its fast tempo. But besides that there is a slow version as well. The categories are very different in music, in technique and in style.

Fast boogie is all about the dynamics, footwork and acrobatics. It is very intense and spectacular. It makes you feel happy, fired up, powerful. Being able to move that fast is extremely liberating and a very good stress buster. Not to mention the “side effect” of becoming fitter and healthier as it is almost like a cardio fitness workout.

Slow boogie in the other hand is jazzy, smokey and elegant. It works with big gestures, wide steps and it has no bounce in it. It feels like being in a smokey, cosy pub in the 50’s together with all these beautiful, dressed-up people, having a glass of wine and enjoying the atmosphere. It works with a lot of contemporary jazz elements, turns, leans and it’s getting more popular to introduce some acrobatics as well. Hence it’s very good for building strength and improving flexibility.

Boogie-Woogie can be really addictive and can bring a lot of joy in your life. You can improve your health and your social life and can be part of a very welcoming and friendly community worldwide.
